Creating Jeeves and the Jaguar

A photo set that I shot in November 2010 gave me some great images to play with when I decided to create the first header for Jeeves and the Jaguar.  What I really wanted to bring out in the style of this site was a sense of kitsch and novelty surrounding the old world charm that is often associated with Jaguar, but I wanted to do it in a way that still felt fresh and engaging.

I suppose the idea was actually sparked several months ago when I found myself searching for some maintenance advice about my car.  I came across a lot of forums and review sites, but never any sites that felt very personable or more than just copied and pasted content.  I'd already enjoyed sharing photos and short videos on my editing blog, but it was around that time that I decided it might be kind of fun to launch a dedicated Jaguar blog - one that focuses on the culture of the car more than the technical specs.

I liked the idea of calling the site Jeeves and the Jaguar because it sounded like a storybook title.  Maybe one about a doting butler and a classic British automobile, or maybe it's that the title seemed symbolic of how much I've cared for my own car.  All in all, I think the branding and concept just seemed quirky enough that it had the potentially to maybe spark a bit of interest.

I've considered all of this as a way to make my site standout from other car blogs.  I'm not creating a cold technical forum here, this is meant to be about my experiences with my Jaguar and the pop culture that creates the allure of the brand.  I realized that even just sharing my original photography or stories could be mildly interesting to other people who enjoy cars as much as I do.

There's certainly a lot of history and a lot of other passionate folks who love their Jaguars too, so it should be fun to see how this idea evolves and changes as my car continues to age.  And hey, the title isn't specific to just one model or year of Jaguar so at least there's room to grow! Not that I'm hoping for that just yet.

  1. You need to get the name of your blog on some of the Jaguar messageboards. I've owned my 2001 XJ8L for four months. I discovered many other messageboards on day 2 of ownership, but I just came across your site yesterday while looking for production numbers for my car.
