1940 SS Jaguar Range

These images come from a very rare showroom catalogue produced in 1940 to showcase the SS Jaguar range.  What makes it so rare is that the war effort was well underway in the UK and paper was in high demand for the military.

In fact, Jaguar would return to its roots during the war effort and produced side cars again.  It's where the 'SS' nameplate came from - Swallow Sidecars.  Following WWII however, the company dropped the 'SS' altogether given the unfortunate association and officially became Jaguar.

These beautiful illustrations show the stunning vehicles the company had been producing up to that point.  The SS 100 looks like it would be particularly fun to drive.

1967 Jaguar Pirana Concept

The Jaguar Pirana concept car was a Bertone styling exercise sponsored by the Daily Telegraph (a British newspaper) for the 1967 London Motor Show.  Although the car was never put into production, it was a big enough success at the London Motor Show that it was subsequently displayed at car shows in New York and Montreal.

Abandoned in Walsh

On my drive back from Regina after New Year's I stopped off in Walsh to check out these abandoned buildings.  Walsh sits pretty much right on the border between Alberta and Saskatchewan, and I remember as a kid stopping off at these colourful buildings because there was an ice cream shop here.

Painted in a prairie sunset motif it's always hard to miss these buildings when driving by on the Trans Canada, but to my knowledge they've been boarded up for years now. It's always a strange feeling revisiting a place that holds such a specific memory.  I only really knew it for the ice cream, but now it's become this.

1969 Jaguar E-Type

It was the year of landing on the moon and Woodstock, but 1969 was also the year that the second series of the now iconic Jaguar E-Type was released.

Jaguar Booklet 1954

These images are a cool find as they came from a booklet that Jaguar sent to dealerships in 1954. It highlights some of the various advertisements that the company would be running for different publications and how they'd be displayed in newspapers or magazines.
