  1. Jeeves & Followers...need some help!!
I am buying my first jag. I have the choice between a 2001 jag XJ Vanden Plas (87,000 miles/140,000 km), OR a 2000 Jag XJR (72,700 miles/117,000 km).
What should I do? Don't know what one to pick. Any suggestions, in terms of maintenance, fuel economy...etc?

  2. Of the '98-'03 series of Jags the vanden plas is the largest and most luxurious option, the XJR is the supercharged version (and isn't as big as the vanden plas in the rear seats). Maintenance can be significant for both of them, but ask about the timing chain tensioners and throttle body to see if any preventative maintenance or recall work was done. Those are common fail points on this series of Jag.

  3. Thanks so much for the quick reply and the info! I picked the pewter 2001 XJ Vanden Plas...if the mechanical inspection checks out, she will be mine tonight! She is mint. The only thing I liked better about the XJR was the color, it was black.
