Abandoned in Walsh

On my drive back from Regina after New Year's I stopped off in Walsh to check out these abandoned buildings.  Walsh sits pretty much right on the border between Alberta and Saskatchewan, and I remember as a kid stopping off at these colourful buildings because there was an ice cream shop here.

Painted in a prairie sunset motif it's always hard to miss these buildings when driving by on the Trans Canada, but to my knowledge they've been boarded up for years now. It's always a strange feeling revisiting a place that holds such a specific memory.  I only really knew it for the ice cream, but now it's become this.

  1. Crazy! Do these images bring back memories! I worked there the summers starting when I was 16. The business used to be called Silver Sage Antiques + Gifts. I worked the ice cream stand, prepared and sold antiques and souvenirs, and handmade crafts for sale. There is a huge history with these two buildings including their past life as a gas station and restaurant. It is sad to see the graffiti and the buildings vacant. There were some great memories from there and some very interesting people I met during their travels down the TransCanada into Alberta.
